The nursing program at Montana Tech continuously ranks as the top RN program in Montana. This latest ranking also noted Montana Tech as the 26th RN program in the United States.

"We are proud and honored to be recognized again as the top nursing program in Montana," explained Janet Coe, interim Director of Nursing. "Our faculty, staff, and students are determined to achieve excellence and make a difference. I believe our collaboration within the nursing department, across the entire university, and within our community helps drive our continued success."

To help nursing students search for a top RN program, RNCareers.org published their annual findings of the best nursing schools for both Montana and the country. Schools ranked on the list have proven their ability to educate highly competent nurses.

RNcareers.org evaluated five ADN degree programs and five BSN degree programs in Montana to determine their rankings. They obtained each institution's first-time NCLEX-RN passing rates, the number of students taking the test, the program nursing accreditation, and more. They then compared the results against other nursing programs in Montana to provide state rankings.

The top RN programs in order are:
  • Montana Tech
  • Helena College
  • Carroll College
  • MSU
  • Salish Kootenai College
  • Flathead Valley Community College
  • Miles City College
"Montana Tech and the nursing program are excited to be named the 2021 Best Nursing School in Montana," added Karen VanDaveer, interim Dean of the College of Letters, Sciences & Professional Studies. "This recognition is a direct reflection of the students, faculty, and staff at our great institution. We are proud to be a leader of nursing education, with graduates that provide quality care and improve the health of our community, state, and nation."

Montana Tech nursing students achieved a 93.75% pass rate on the NCLEX-RN exam for the first quarter of 2021, which exceeds the Montana average of 83.33% and a national average of 84.83%. The university will expand its offerings for nursing students when the 4,752-square-foot Nursing Simulation Center opens in January 2022. The increase will allow the opportunity for more applicants to be accepted into the program.
