Montana Tech's Department of Petroleum Engineering is home to a bachelor's degree, master's degree and minor in petroleum engineering. Our programs teach students to use mathematics, physics, and geology to address and solve important issues that lead to energy security. The Society of Petroleum Engineers Student Chapter provides students with opportunities for professional development and networking in the energy industry. The petroleum engineering department has a 70 year history of outstanding career placement and some of the highest starting salaries among engineering disciplines.

If you’re interested in meeting the challenges of supplying the world with energy, consider earning your bachelor’s degree in petroleum engineering from Montana Technological University.

Petroleum Engineering, M.S.

Earn your Master of Science (M.S.) degree in Petroleum Engineering, with specializations available in Reservoir Engineering, Drilling Engineering, and Production Engineering.

Petroleum Engineering Minor

Montana Tech offers petroleum engineering minor which is designed for students in another four year degree program at Tech. This 22-credit program includes hours in geology, thermodynamics, and engineering.

The Society of Petroleum Engineers Student Chapter allows you to gain access to technical talks by industry, the annual SPE Symposium, conferences around the world, social events, and many volunteer activities in the community.

Earth Science and Engineering, Ph.D.

Specialties within this Ph.D. take advantage of Montana Tech’s and MBMG’s distinctive strengths in Geological, Environmental, Petroleum, Mining, Mineral and Metallurgical Processing, and Hydrogeological Engineering, along with Geochemistry, Geophysics, Hydrogeology, and Economic Geology.
