Course design is more than just organizing a course according to the syllabus. Please visit this page to learn more about Design theory, available quality assurance tools and memberships, regulations such as Regular Substantive Interaction and ADA requirements, and even some suggestions on how to protect academic integrity in distance environments.
New U.S. Department of Education regulations went into effect on July 1, 2021 to distinguish distance education from correspondence courses, which have financial aid restrictions. The main difference between these two modalities is that a distance education course requires regular and substantive interaction between the instructor and the students. This tip sheet defines regular and substantive interaction and provides tips for how to improve teacher-student interaction in your distance education course.
As we are bound by MUS policies, please visit the UMOnline page on RSI for more information.
