Montana Tech’s Public Lecture Series will host Geum Environmental on Wednesday, December 1, 2021 at 4 p.m. (Mountain Standard Time –US). Her presentation is titled, “Upper Clark Fork River Floodplain Ecology and Response to Restoration and Remediation.”
“Rivers and floodplains are complex systems driven by dynamic processes. River and floodplain restoration has evolved significantly over the last 20 years with an increased emphasis on integrating ecological process and site resiliency into treatments and designs. Researchers and practitioners continue to evolve our understanding of the ecological and biological drivers in these systems, the conditions that initiate and drive natural floodplain recovery after disturbance, and how that information can be used to improve restoration efficiency and effectiveness. This presentation will focus on floodplain response to remediation and restoration actions completed during the on-going clean-up of the Clark Fork River Superfund Site, describing results and lessons learned from ten-year monitoring completed in 2020 at the Milltown Dam Site, and summarizing observations of vegetative response and potential floodplain recovery trajectories for completed reaches of the Upper Clark River portion of the Superfund Site.”
Amy Sacry is a Certified Ecological Restoration Practitioner with 20 years of experience in applied ecological restoration. She started her career in restoration as a graduate student in the University of Montana’s Riparian Wetland Research Program and as a seasonal fisheries biologist with the Bureau of Land Management, Missoula Field Office. She has been a partner at Geum Environmental Consulting since 2004. Amy has focused her work on riparian, floodplain and stream restoration in Montana and Idaho, developing and implementing restoration techniques for both small- and large- scale projects. Her main interests are working with creative interdisciplinary teams and integrating ecological structure and diversity into projects at all scales. She has been a member of the project team for the integrated Upper Clark Fork River remediation and restoration work since 2010 and part of the Milltown Dam restoration team since 2005.
