Eighteen exceptional high school students from across the state will attend the fourth annual MedStart Camp on the campus of Montana Tech, July 22 – 26.
MedStart is a 5-day summer program aimed at developing the next generation of health care providers. Hosted by the Montana AHEC (Areas Health Education Center), each MedStart camp immerses students in campus life while providing opportunities to explore a variety of health care careers through simulation activities and job shadows at local facilities. Students also attend college planning sessions to map out their career goals.
MedStart Camps are hosted June and July in Missoula, Great Falls, Billings, Miles City, and Butte.
More than 100 students were selected to participate in MedStart camps following a rigorous application and recommendation process. The Montana AHEC strives to accept a diverse group of exceptional students from a variety of community sizes, demographics, interests, and backgrounds.
Montana, and the nation as a whole, is facing a healthcare workforce shortage. To develop the next generation of healthcare providers, the Montana AHEC system (Area Health Education Centers) coordinate the summer MedStart Camps as one way to spark student’s interest in pursuing careers in healthcare.
