Montana Tech will celebrate its 117th Commencement Ceremony on Saturday, May 6, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in the Butte Civic Center. The university is expected to award 591 degrees and certificates to 537 students.
Commencement week activities begin on Thursday, May 4 with graduates going through a rehearsal ceremony in preparation for Saturday. The rehearsal will take place in the HPER complex at noon.
Reunion weekend kicks-off on Thursday at 11:00 am with Montana Tech hosting a Tech Talk reunion luncheon where campus leaders and students will share Montana Tech’s achievements with reunion guests. The event will take place in the Mineral Museum and is sponsored by the Associated Students of Montana Tech. Later Thursday evening, Montana Tech will honor the members of the classes of 1952, 1957, 1962, 1967, 1972, and 1977 at the Montana Tech Reunion Reception. The event begins at 5:00 pm with cocktails at the Chancellor’s Residence followed by the reception in the Natural Resource Research Center beginning at 6:00 pm. On Friday morning, reunion guests and commencement honorees will begin the morning with breakfast followed by optional tours of the Distillery, Butte Brewery, and the Granite Mountain Speculator Mine Memorial. Montana Tech is expecting a number of alumni to return for the weekend.
On Friday evening a number of alumni, graduates, families and friends will gather in Montana Tech’s HPER Complex for the Graduates Banquet, held in honor of the graduating class of 2017. The event begins at 6:00 p.m. with no-host cocktails followed by the banquet at 7:00 p.m. Guest speaker for the event is Steven Radley, Senior Vice President of Product Innovation at iHeartRadio. Radley graduated from Montana Tech with a degree in Professional and Technical Communication in 2003. All are welcome to attend the banquet. The banquet is $35/person and reservations can be made by contacting Peggy McCoy at 406-496-4402. The event is sponsored by the Montana Tech Alumni Association.
Saturday morning will kick-off with the Nursing Pinning Ceremony in the Library Auditorium at 8:30 a.m. The Montana Tech Nursing Pinning Ceremony is a symbolic welcoming of newly graduated nurses into the nursing profession. At the ceremony, 22 Associate of Science (ASN) students and 14 Bachelor of Science Completion (BSN) students will be presented with nursing pins by Montana Tech Nursing Department faculty. Kjersti Walund will be the ASN student speaker.
The Order of the Engineering Ring Ceremony will also take place on Saturday beginning at 9:00 a.m. at the Butte Civic Center.
At approximately 10:15 a.m. on May 6, 2017, degree candidates will begin assembling in the halls of the Butte Civic Center in preparation for the Commencement Ceremony, slated to begin at 11:00 a.m. A reception for graduates, family members, and friends will occur immediately following the Commencement Ceremony (approximately 1:15 pm) in annex of the Butte Civic Center.
