Montana Tech Environmental Engineering Students Earn Top Prizes at PNWIS Conference
Montana Tech Environmental Engineering students earned top prizes among other awards at the Pacific Northwest International Section (PNWIS) of the Air and Waste Management Association. Montana Tech students brought home First Place in the Environmental Challenge and First, Second and Third Places in the 2016 Young Professional Papers competition. The competitions were part of the PNWIS Conference held October 5 - 7 in Juneau, Alaska.
The Environmental Challenge gives student teams an opportunity to develop an approach to a realistic environmental problem and present their solutions to a panel of environmental professionals. Team Catch and Release Consulting brought home First Place and included Environmental Engineering students Carson Bechtel, Ryan Cochran, Kelly Hertel, Hunter Kent, and Emilie Rott.
The 2016 Young Professional Papers competition evaluates students on the basis of technical content, visual aids, and presentation skills. Montana Tech Environmental Engineering Graduate students Kunle Ogunsakin placed First, Eric Hull placed Second and undergraduate student Clay Thomas placed Third.
Department Head of Environmental Engineering, Kumar Ganesan, commented that the Montana Tech team again is the best among several teams that competed representing universities across the Northwest United States. This team that took First Place is also eligible to compete in the national competition to be held in June and PNWIS will sponsor them.
