International Survivors of Suicide Loss Event to be Held at Montana Tech

Montana Tech will be hosting an event in honor of International Survivors of Suicide Loss Day on Saturday, November 21, 2015 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in the Kelley-Steward Room in the Student Union Building on campus.

International Survivors of Suicide Loss Day is the one day a year when people affected by suicide loss gather in their local communities to find comfort and gain understanding as they share stories of healing and hope. Survivor Day was created by an act of Congress in 1999 and since then has been sponsored and supported by the American Foundation for Suicide prevention (AFSP).

In 2014 there were 278 locally organized events held throughout the US, Canada, and around the world.  This year’s gatherings will include a screening of AFSP’s compelling new documentary Family Journeys: Healing and Hope after a Suicide.

For many loss survivors, attending a Survivor Day event is an opportunity to discover that they are not alone in their experience of losing someone they know and love to suicide.  For those who are unable to attend a Survivor Day event in person, AFSP hosts a Survivor Day program online at survivorday.org

All are welcome to attend. Food and refreshments will be served. To learn more, please contact Cricket Pietsch at 406-496-3730 or cpietsch@mtech.edu or Joyce O’Neill at 406-496-4429 or joneill@mtech.e
