Pita Pit Event for Montana Tech Scholarships a Success

On June 10, the Pita Pit in Butte and Montana Tech hosted an event encouraging the community to enjoy a meal at the Pita Pit and help a Butte kid on their path to an extraordinary life. Buddy and Carrie Fisher, owners of the Pita Pit, donated the proceeds to the Kevin and Joan Shannon Scholarship Fund at Montana Tech. The event raised a total of $6,000, which was matched by two local anonymous donors.

“Buddy and I would like to say thank you to all the people and businesses who came out to support this amazing scholarship! Both kitchens were grilling – both delivery cars were delivering and all hands were on deck – ALL to keep the tradition of sending local students to Montana Tech alive,” noted Carrie Fisher. “Nowhere else, but it Butte, Montana would you see this kind of support! We are so proud of our hometown and can’t wait for next year when we will do it all over again!”

The Kevin and Joan Shannon Scholarship Fund was created in 1987 by Kevin Shannon, a local Butte businessman, to support Butte High School and Butte Central High School students attend Montana Tech. Since then, the Shannon Scholarship Fund has positively impacted over 400 students pursuing a post-secondary education at Montana Tech. The fund has given out over $180,000 in scholarships.

“We are very thankful that the Pita Pit stepped up and made this Butte scholarship their priority for their one year anniversary. The Kevin and Joan Shannon Scholarship is very unique in the fact that it is a scholarship for Butte students who want to attend Montana Tech. It encompasses what Butte is all about. We want to be able to offer the students in our own backyard the opportunity to get on the extraordinary path that Montana Tech provides. We are very interested in partnering with other businesses to grow the scholarship’s endowment and help more Butte kids. The Pita Pit played a large part in being the first business to jump on board.”
