The Testing Center provides testing services to support the academic and professional goals of students and the community. We adhere to the Professional Standards and Guidelines set by the National College Testing Association (NCTA). Our center houses seven private testing rooms and a computer lab with ten desktop computers equipped with speakers and webcams - see inside!

- There is a one-time $25 testing fee for placement exams that must be paid on the day of the test or over the phone at 406-496-4250.
- Testers must stow all of their personal belongings and only bring permitted materials into the testing area.
- Electronic devices are not permitted unless permission is given by the proctor or instructor.
- Montana Tech has a zero-tolerance policy for academic dishonesty, and all testers must abide by our Code of Conduct.
- Scratch paper must be discarded before exiting the Testing Center.
- Exams must be completed by 5pm.
- The Testing Center is not liable for any lost or stolen items.
Placement Testing
Only the ALEKS PPL Math can be taken online. The College Success exams are administered in person. For security reasons, a Montana Tech email is required to register for an ALEKS PPL exam. For dual enrollment students needing to take a placement exam, see our Dual Enrollment Guide.
Do I need to take a writing placement exam?
If you answer "no" to the following questions, you should take a writing placement exam:
- Did I transfer prior writing credit from another college/university or from my SAT/ACT scores?
- Did I take and pass a writing course through a Dual Enrollment program?
Do I need to take the College Success math placement exam?
If you answer "yes" to the following scenario, you should take the College Success math placement exam:
- My major requires me to take a math course that is below Calculus (M171) and I do not have applicable math credit or scores from another institution to send to the Admissions office.
Do I need to take the ALEKS PPL math placement exam?
If you answer "yes" to the following scenario, you should take the ALEKS PPL math placement exam:
- My major requires me to take a Calculus (M171) course and I do not have applicable Calculus credit or scores from another institution to send to the Admissions office.
