Montana Tech’s Institute for Educational Opportunities, the Montana Campus Compact AmeriCorps, AmeriCorps Senior RSVP programs, local AmeriCorps Vista volunteers, and staff of the Clark Chateau in Butte will be participating in the 2024 MLK Day Read for Peace event on Monday, January 15th, 2024

Volunteers will be at Margaret Leary Elementary, West Elementary, Emerson Elementary, Whittier Elementary and Kennedy Elementary reading books to the students. Butte-Silver Bow Chief Executive JP Gallagher will also join the team at West Elementary and will be reading to Ms. Chrissie Harper’s 1st grade class at 1:00 pm.

MLK Read for Peace is a statewide service project that places college students, community volunteers, and AmeriCorps national service members in kindergarten through sixth-grade classrooms to read age-appropriate books to students about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. After listening to a book read aloud, students then complete an activity that asks them to reflect on how they can promote peace and equality in their own lives.
