Five students from Montana Tech’s Department of Business & Information Technology Department competed last week in the Collegiate Distributive Educational Clubs of America (DECA) Business National Competition in Orlando, Florida. Representing Tech were Samantha Cormier, Mikaela Latka, Jacob Masters, Nina Pida, and Annika Rapp – all Business majors. The Tech team was mentored by Associate Professor, Dr. Lance Revenaugh.
“It was a real honor to represent Montana Tech at a national level,” said Samantha Cormier, President of Tech’s DECA Chapter. “The competition was tough but it was very rewarding to get to meet other Collegiate DECA college students from across the country. And being in Florida during part of our Montana winter was pretty nice as well!”
The Collegiate Distributive Educational Clubs of America (DECA) prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality and management. The national competition pitted student teams in these business areas. Currently there are more than 15,000 college students from across the world who are DECA members.
“The national DECA event is competition at the highest level,” said Dr. Revenaugh. “The competition was focused on applied business issues, which is perfect for our Tech students because of Tech’s academic emphasis on applied problem solving. Our five students are some of our best. While we did not win the event, we were strong and we competed. I was very proud of them.”
