Admitted Transfer Students

Living on campus allows students to become more connected and engaged with the campus community and can improve your overall academic experience. All students are welcome to live in the Montana Tech residence halls. Housing is assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. If you would like to live in the halls, the priority application deadline is April 1st.

For complete details on costs, room and meal plan options, and how to apply, visit the Residence Life pages.

Class registration for new incoming students opens in May for the Fall/Summer semesters or November for the Spring semester and remains open until the Friday before classes begin. Follow the steps below to complete the registration process.

  1. Review your Admission File

To register for classes, your admission file must be complete. If any items are missing, you are not yet eligible to register for classes. Review your admission checklist on your personalized Montana Tech website and submit any remaining items as soon as you are able. If you have any questions about what is required to complete your file, contact Enrollment Services at 406-496-4256.

    1. Official Transcripts

A transcript will be considered official only if:

      • All final grades are posted, i.e. no “in progress” courses;
      • It is emailed directly to Montana Tech from the transferring institution via a secure transcript delivery service; or
      • It is stamped with the institution’s official seal and delivered to Montana Tech in a sealed envelope.
    2. MMR Immunizations

Immunizations can be faxed to the Enrollment Services office at 406.496.4710 or e-mailed to Enrollment Services.

    3. Placement Exam

If you received notification that an Accuplacer Exam is required to complete your admission file, we do not have enough information about your academic preparedness to register you for classes. The Accuplacer Exam is a Math and English placement exam and is available at many universities throughout the United States. Scores can be e-mailed to the Enrollment Services office for review.

    4. Final High School Transcript and ACT/SAT Scores

If you graduated high school within the past three years and have fewer than 30 college credits, we will also require your final high school transcript or GED and official ACT/SAT scores. Official test scores can be sent to us through the  ACT  or  CollegeBoard  websites using Montana Tech’s school code – 2418 (ACT) or 4487 (SAT).

  2. Review your Transcript Evaluation

When your admission file is complete, a Montana Tech Transcript Evaluator will review your transcripts and determine which credits will transfer to your chosen degree program.

Upon completion of your evaluation, the evaluator will notify you via email about the number of credits accepted and provide you with instructions on how to complete the registration process for your program.

Please Note: Montana Tech requires all new transfer students to complete their admission file at least one month prior to classes beginning. Students with incomplete files at the one-month deadline are not guaranteed completion of an evaluation prior to the first day of class.

Orientation is an exciting part of transitioning to college life and is an important part of becoming a Montana Tech Student. Plan to arrive on campus the week before classes begin to explore the academic, cultural, and social opportunities on campus and within the Butte community. In addition to the general orientation activities, a special break-out session for transfer students will also be held. Refer to the orientation schedule for session times.

Montana Tech is committed to student success. ALL NEW STUDENTS ARE REQUIRED TO ATTEND ORIENTATION.
