American Rescue Plan Act of 2021

Montana Technological University received $2,453,306 on May 16, 2021 in federal funding from the American Rescue Plan (ARP) Act of 2021 which provides direct aid to students in the form of grants to help ensure learning continues during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The ARP Grants are intended to help students with the following types of expenses:

• Tuition and fees (including student account balances owed)
• Housing and food
• Course materials
• Technology related costs
• Health care
• Transportation
• Childcare expenses

In meeting the requirements of the Act, Montana Technological University will prioritize students with exceptional financial need, such as students who are eligible to receive Pell Grants.  Montana Tech will use the Expected Family Contribution (EFC) from the 2021-2022 FAFSA to meet this requirement. However, student eligibility for HEERF states that all students who are or were enrolled in an institution of higher education during the COVID-19 national emergency are eligible for emergency financial aid grants from the HEERF, regardless of whether they completed a FAFSA or are eligible for Title IV.  That includes citizens, permanent residents, refugees, asylum seekers, Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival (DACA) recipients, other DREAMers, and similar undocumented students.

There is no application process to apply for ARP grants.  All eligible Montana Tech students will automatically receive a grant.  ARP grants will be issued in the form of a check and mailed to the student’s billing address reported OrediggerWeb.  These are direct payments to students.  If you have a balance owing to Montana Tech, you may use these funds to pay your outstanding balance.  However, these funds will not pay the balance directly.

The following eligibility requirements for awarding grants to students per the policy adopted by Montana Tech:

• Assist students completing the Radiologic Technology program that were disrupted by the Coronavirus pandemic which extended their education from being completed in the spring 2021 to completing in the summer 2021.
• Prioritize students with high need as defined by the Expected Family Contribution (EFC) reported from the Central Processing Center.
• Students must be enrolled at Montana Tech during the Fall 2021 term as of September 14, 2021.
• Students who are dual credit or continuing education will not receive an ARP grant.
