Montana Tech Professor Emerita Beverly Karplus Hartline elected president-elect of Sigma Xi

Montana Technological University is pleased to announce that Professor Emerita Beverly Karplus Hartline has been elected president-elect of Sigma Xi, The Scientific Research Honor Society. The election, held online November 3–17, 2025, drew participation from Sigma Xi members across the globe.

Hartline will begin her three-year leadership term on July 1, 2026, serving consecutively as president-elect, president, and immediate past president. A respected physicist and geophysicist, Hartline retired from Montana Tech in 2021 after nearly a decade of service as Vice Chancellor for Research and Dean of the Graduate School. Throughout her career, she has been a national advocate for broadening participation in science and engineering.

Sigma Xi, founded in 1886, is one of the world’s largest scientific honor societies, supporting research excellence and integrity across all fields of science and engineering. Its elected leaders, all volunteers, guide the Society’s mission and ensure the highest standards of professional ethics.
