Ripple will launch their Fall 2025 Watershed Science Field Season following DayOne

Ripple: The Center for Education and Ecosystem Studies is excited to announce the start of their 2025 Fall field season. Over the course of a year, Ripple’s outreach team will collectively work with thousands of students. During the 2025 Fall season, Ripple’s Butte team will work with 500+ students from Drummond and East middle schools. Their team will be delivering a 5-day watershed science curriculum that focuses on the history of the Clark Fork Watershed and the work that’s been done to restore it.

Ripple’s curriculum is designed to use the story of the Clark Fork’s restoration to inspire generations of Montanans using hands-on science education. After Ripple’s lesson concludes, their students will have improved scientific literacy and understanding of the history of superfund in Montana. This information prepares them for a career that can make our state healthier and their futures brighter.

Ultimately, Ripple hopes to empower future generations of change-makers, problem-solvers, and conservation-minded citizens.

Ripple’s team has begun many supporting programs over the years, like their annual teacher academy and low tech, process-based restoration trainings for landowners. However, K-12 watershed science education will always be at the heart of Ripple’s programming. Empowering Montana’s children offers the most potential to create true, lasting change.

The presence of our team members in classrooms – especially rural classrooms – benefits everyone involved. Kids see a path toward a brighter future and Montana Tech, a pathway toward that future, gains exposure in otherwise isolated communities.

Ripple’s Fall field season will begin on the Monday, September 15th, after DayOne fundraising concludes at noon the Friday before.

DayOne is an annual fundraiser hosted by Montana Technological University. During DayOne, departments and centers within Tech are given 36 hours to ask for donations from community sponsors. DayOne 2025 will be critical to Ripple’s long-term success. Each donation will allow Ripple to ask foundations for larger grants while moving the organization toward more private donors. DayOne will also kick off a year long celebration of Montana Technological University’s 125th anniversary.
