Montana Technological University is earning national recognition by being named to Money magazine’s 2025 list of the Best Colleges in America.

“Being named to Money’s Best Colleges in America list is a reflection of our deep commitment to providing a high-value, high-impact education,” Executive Director of Admissions and Enrollment Leslie Dickerson said. “This recognition underscores what our students, alumni, and industry partners already know—Montana Tech delivers real results. From our strong job placement rates to our hands-on academic programs and unmatched return on investment, we are proud to be Montana’s only special focus institution dedicated to STEM, healthcare, and the trades.”

This annual ranking evaluates more than 700 four-year colleges based on factors including affordability, quality of education, graduation outcomes, and alumni success. The publication uses a unique star-rating system to assess overall value, with a strong emphasis on return on investment.

Montana Tech received high marks, with 3.5 out of 5 stars, for its strong job placement rates, as well as its competitive tuition and commitment to hands-on, career-oriented education. Montana Tech is the only public university in Montana to be included on this year’s list.

Located in Butte, Montana Tech is the state’s only Special Focus university, emphasizing STEM (science, technology, engineering and math), with additional standout programs in nursing, business, construction management, and occupational safety and health.

Money’s 2025 rankings underscore Montana Tech’s longstanding commitment to supporting first-generation college students, small class sizes, and strong industry partnerships, which help graduates transition quickly into successful careers.

“From the moment our students begin their journey at Montana Tech, they begin receiving resources and tools to build a foundation for a successful career,” Vice Provost for Student Success and Dean of Students Joe Cooper said. “Our outcomes, including placement rates and average starting salaries, continue to demonstrate the value and power of a Montana Tech education.”

There are now more opportunities available than ever before to assist students in their journey to become an Oredigger.

The Ryan and Lisa Lance Scholars Program, launched in 2023 provides financial assistance and mentorship opportunities to selected scholars throughout their academic journey. Each year, the program provides 50 in-state students with the opportunity to receive a $4,000 per year scholarship, renewable for up to an additional three years (up to $16,000 total).
