Montana Technological University will welcome hundreds of new Orediggers and their families to campus during the new student orientation, which takes place August 20-24, 2025.
The fun kicks off on Wednesday, August 20, when all new students will check-in at the Student Union Building. Students will receive their orientation schedule and group assignments and be directed for residence hall move-in if living on-campus. Lunch is on us in the Student Union Building, and then prepare for an afternoon and evening of informative and fun events hosted by Campus Life. While students attend their first orientation team meeting at 2:30 PM, family members and guests are invited to the Q & A Panel in the Library Auditorium. At 4:00 PM, everyone will converge on historic Leonard Field for the Tech tradition of Convocation, in which we welcome our newest class of Orediggers. Dinner is provided immediately after, and parents, families, and guests are invited to a special reception at 6:00 PM on Leonard Field. The evening concludes with comedy or hypnotist show in the Library Auditorium at 8:00 PM. (Students and their family members are welcome, although the show may not be appropriate for younger children).
“We’re expecting another record class at Montana Tech, and our community is ready to give them a memorable welcome experience,” Vice Provost for Student Success and Dean of Students Dr. Joe Cooper said. “Orientation is intentionally designed to give new students a holistic introduction to our campus, resources, and people so that they can confidently be successful and foster a strong sense of belonging during their time here.”
During orientation, students will attend sessions that will allow them to get their bearings on campus, find out where/how to access academic resources, learn what it means to be a responsible member of the Oredigger community, and build relationships with their peers through adventurous pursuits. Peer-led sessions and activities will give students the opportunity to get to know campus, how to access help, and tips and tricks for enjoying and successfully completing your first year at Montana Tech from students just like you! Some other activities included the opportunity to visit the Mineral Museum, World Museum of Mining, and even riding the trolley through historic Butte America.
We highly recommend that all new students submit their information and photo for their DiggerCard ahead of time. This will save waiting in line to get one when you arrive on campus. Click here for more information.
In addition to the scheduled orientation, Highlands College students and veterans will have sessions specially tailored to their needs. The detailed orientation schedule will be posted here in late July. Graduate students have their own orientation. To learn more, click here.
