Montana Tech senior receives Montana Student Volunteer Award

Malachi Warneke

Montana Technological University civil engineering senior Malachi Warneke is one of 15 students from around the state to receive the Montana Student Volunteer Award from the Governor’s Office of Community Service and Montana Campus Network for Civic Engagement (MCNCE).

Warneke, from Shepherd, Montana, volunteers with Chi Alpha, a campus ministry.

“My responsibilities within Chi Alpha are to coordinate events on campus with people in charge of campus life to provide students with a chance to have community,” Warneke said. “The events range from worship nights in the Copper Lounge to small groups in the Mill to large group events like swing dances or yard games or similar fun activities. The reason that I volunteer is because I believe that Chi Alpha offers students with a chance to hear God's word and live in uplifting community during college.”

The student volunteers were recognized at a virtual event on April 24 and presented with a certificate signed by Governor Gianforte and their college president.

“These students help us remember that even with our busy lives, it’s possible to give back in thoughtful and significant ways,” said Josh Vanek of the MCNCE. “We appreciate what the service they provide to Montana communities and thank them for their service.”
