The Department of Mathematical Sciences and the Data Science program are pleased to announce a lecture by Dr. Derek Brown on Monday, April 7 at 2:00 pm in the Copper Lounge. Dr. Brown has a Ph.D. in Biostatistics from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. Dr. Brown was a postdoctoral fellow at the National Cancer Institution and is currently a principal biostatistician for Foundation Medicine. Light snacks will be served.
The title of Dr. Brown’s talk is “Applications of Data Science in Cancer Research: Multidisciplinary Approaches to a Multifactorial Disease.” An abstract for the talk states, “Cancer is a multifactorial disease with both genetic and environmental factors contributing to disease development. The team science-oriented field of data science utilizes cutting edge technology to analyze, visualize, and learn from increasing amounts of data, which accelerates the extent to which we understand, monitor, and treat cancer. This talk will present an overview of several different applications of data science in cancer research including image analyses, environmental analyses, large data analyses, and integrative analyses.”
