Montana Technological University will host a number of financial aid workshops this winter to help incoming and current students understand and complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The U.S. Department of Education launched a new version of the FAFSA for the 2024-2025 school year.
Submitting the FAFSA is a requirement for many forms of financial aid, including grants, scholarships, federal work-study, and student loans.
“These events are a great way to complete the FAFSA with someone on hand to answer questions,” Executive Director of Admissions and Enrollment Leslie Dickerson said. “Submitting the FAFSA is an important step for anyone who plans to enroll or is attending college, so we encourage students and families to take advantage of these opportunities!”
Events will be staffed by representatives from Montana Technological University’s Financial Aid Office, the Institute for Educational Opportunities, Highlands College, and Montana 10.
Participants are encouraged to create their FSA ID before the workshop, as it reduces application time at the workshop, but staff members can also help create or retrieve an FSA ID. Learn how to create an FSA ID here.
Parents and guardians are welcome to attend. Most students will need copies of their parents’ tax information to complete the application. Participants do not need to bring a laptop for events on Montana Tech or Highlands College campuses.
Events currently scheduled include:
January 24: 5 pm – 7 pm Anaconda Junior/Senior High School, open to Anaconda community members
January 30: 5 pm - 7 pm in the Health Science Building Room 104 at Montana Tech: Open to all Montana Tech, Butte High, and Butte Central students
February 1: 7 am – 9 am at Highlands College HC131, open to all Montana Tech students
