Elijah Byrd (Mechanical Engineering, ’24) graduated from Montana Technological University in May 2024 and jumped into the workforce as an engineer in training with a bridge inspection company.

He says the Marie Moebus Presidential Scholarship, Montana Tech’s most prestigious and competitive award, played a big part in his success. These scholarships combine a tuition waiver with cash and are renewable for up to four years.

“I chose to go to Montana Tech mostly for the scholarship I received as well as athletics,” said Byrd, a member of the Oredigger Track and Field team. “I wanted to be an engineer early in high school, as I realized I liked solving problems and had an affinity for math and science. Montana Tech gave me some of my greatest friends and relationships. Not only did I have a productive experience in school, but I had an incredible and formative four years.”

Byrd is confident in his ability to take on the world with a Montana Tech education.

“The Moebus Scholarship allowed me to graduate debt-free with an engineering degree from an incredible university. It set me up for life,” he said.
