New student orientation begins August 21, 2024

Montana Technological University will welcome hundreds of new Orediggers and their families to campus during the new student orientation, which takes place August 21-25, 2024.

The fun kicks off on Wednesday, August 21, when all new students will check-in at the Student Union Building. Students will receive their orientation schedule and group assignments and be directed for residence hall move-in if living on-campus. Lunch is on us in the Student Union Building, and then prepare for an afternoon and evening of informative and fun events. While students attend their first orientation team meeting at 2:30 PM, family members and guests are invited to the Q & A Panel in the Library Auditorium. At 4:00 PM, everyone will converge on historic Leonard Field for the Tech tradition of Convocation, in which we welcome our newest class of Orediggers. Dinner is provided immediately after, and parents, families, and guests are invited to a special reception hosted at the Chancellor’s Residence at 6:00 PM. The evening concludes with entertainment by comedian and magician Tyler Korso in the Library Auditorium at 8:00 PM. (Students and their family members are welcome, although the show may not be appropriate for younger children).

“The Montana Tech community is thrilled to welcome the incoming class of Orediggers to campus,” Vice Provost for Student Success and Dean of Students Dr. Joe Cooper said. “Orientation is intentionally designed to give new students a holistic introduction to our campus, resources, and people so that they can confidently be successful and foster a strong sense of belonging during their time here.”

During orientation, students will attend sessions that will allow them to get their bearings on campus, find out where/how to access academic resources, learn what it means to be a responsible member of the Oredigger community, and build relationships with their peers through adventurous pursuits. Trips planned include camping on the Big Hole River, exploring the Ringing Rocks near Whitehall, and tours of Butte or Our Lady of the Rockies.

We highly recommend that all new students submit their information and photo for their DiggerCard ahead of time. This will save waiting in line to get one when you arrive on campus. Click here for more information.

In addition to the scheduled orientation, Highlands College students and veterans will have sessions specially tailored to their needs. The detailed orientation schedule will be posted here in late July. Graduate students have their own orientation. To learn more, click here.
