Montana Technological University and Montana Tech Athletics are excited to announce significant upgrades to Bob Green Field at Alumni Coliseum. These enhancements have been made possible by a generous $250,000 donation from Liberty Energy, underscoring Montana Tech's dedication to the health and safety of its student-athletes and their commitment to providing top-notch facilities.

The Liberty Energy logo now proudly joins the signature of legendary football coach Bob Green on the new turf installed in Alumni Coliseum. The installation, completed in early July by Shaw Sports Turf, replaces a 12-year-old turf that had reached the end of its lifespan. The new design also incorporates the historic Butte "M" on Big Butte, featuring the "V" that signifies an Oredigger victory.

Athletic Director Matt Stepan expressed his gratitude, saying, “We are deeply thankful for the commitment of Montana Tech, the Montana Tech Foundation, and Liberty Energy in prioritizing the health and safety of our student-athletes. This new turf ushers in a new era of Oredigger football while continuing to honor the lifetime contributions of Legendary Coach Bob Green. We believe this improvement will continue to make Bob Green Field at Alumni Coliseum the premier football venue in both the Frontier Conference and the NAIA."

“Liberty is excited about growing our partnership with Montana Tech,” Liberty Energy CEO Chris Wright said. “Our relationship is rooted in our shared foundation of grit, resilience, strong character & values, and a commitment to bettering human lives. Liberty looks forward to a long future with Montana Tech.”

The support from Liberty Energy is the latest in a string of years-long collaborations between the company and Montana Tech. The Liberty Energy Scholarship was established in 2019 to help Butte students attend Montana Tech. The first class of graduates walked the commencement stage in May 2024, where CEO Chris Wright delivered the commencement address.

Liberty Energy has also been active in Montana Tech’s Career Fair and the Digger Auction, which supports Montana Tech student-athletes.

“From hiring our graduates to hosting events, volunteering on boards and supporting philanthropic endeavors, Liberty Energy has been an “all-in” partner for the advancement of Montana Tech. We greatly appreciate their support to help take this turf project to the finish line,” added Luke Meyer, Montana Tech Foundation Vice President of Development.

With the new turf project complete, the Orediggers are poised to take the field on August 29 in the season opener, the Copper Game, sponsored by Rocky Mountain Credit Union, against Georgetown College. Kick-off is 6 p.m.
