Montana Technological University recently recognized the nominees for the 2024 Student Veteran of the Year Award (also known as the Distinguished Student Veteran Award). This year, the university received a nearly unprecedented number of nominations, with 17 students. The 2024 nominees were Matthew Ashcraft (Exercise and Health Science), Ethan Lenegar (Nursing), Troy Springer (Construction Management), Travis Schroeder (Mechanical Engineering), James Adams (Mechanical Engineering), Cody Skibsted (Electrical Engineering), Rylan Signalness (Occupational and Safety Health), Jason Martin (Petroleum Engineering), Jared Edwards (Construction Technology), Louis Harlan (Geological Engineering), Marisa Redgrave (Geosciences graduate program), Samara Gutierrez (Associate of Science), and Ethan Mishler (Metallurgical and Materials Engineering), as well as four other excellent nominees who wished to remain anonymous.
The Student Veteran of the Year Award began in 2014 to honor and recognize outstanding student veterans and active members of the military at Montana Tech.
“We are excited every year to recognize our student veterans and active military members who excel inside and outside the classroom with their dedication to their studies and to helping their fellow classmates,” said Admissions Evaluator/School Certifying Official (SCO) Tyler Regan. “We thank our students for their service to their country and to our Montana Tech community.”
Each student was nominated by a faculty, staff, or students on campus. Their contributions to the campus and leadership in the classroom is unparalleled. After thoroughly reviewing and examining all the nominees, Montana Tech has named Ethan Lenegar as the recipient of the 2024 Student Veteran of the Year Award. Lenegar, from Dillon, was nominated for the award based on his service to the Nursing Department and his fellow classmates as a leader in the classroom. Using the expertise and skills he garnered in the U.S. Armed Forces, he never leaves a student behind. One of Ethan’s nine nominators stated, “As a student representative, he presented the student perspective to the faculty and gave actionable feedback that changed the Nursing Department.”
