Dr. Nosa O. Egiebor will join Montana Technological University as the provost and executive vice chancellor on July 31, 2023. Dr. Egiebor will replace retiring Dr. Steven Gammon, who served as provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs since January 2020.

"As provost, I intend to be fully engaged as an active member of the university leadership team, with a focus on ensuring that Montana Tech not only fulfills its mission as a special focus institution for the State of Montana but is also true to the strategic goals of fostering student success, developing academic programs of distinction and excellence, and building a healthy and vibrant campus community in a collaborative atmosphere that is fully supportive of our most valuable resource, namely; faculty, staff, and students."
Dr. Egiebor is a Chemical and Environmental Engineering professor with a Ph.D. in metallurgical engineering from Queen's University in Ontario, Canada, specializing in process engineering and environmental aspects of mineral processing and extractive metallurgy. Dr. Egiebor has more than 30 years of experience in teaching, research, and academic administration. He started his academic career at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Canada, where he attained the rank of full professor before he was appointed the U.S. Department of Energy's Dr. Samuel P. Massie Chair of Excellence Professor in Environmental Engineering, with tenure at Tuskegee University in Alabama. Serving also as program director, he led the development of the environmental engineering degree program at Tuskegee University. As an academic administrator, he previously served as provost and executive vice president at the State University of New York – College of Environmental Science and Forestry in Syracuse. Before that, he was executive director of global engagement at the University of Mississippi, and before that, he was vice president for international education and research at Tuskegee University in Alabama.

"He's had an incredibly successful career at various institutions and will bring a wealth of experience and ideas to Montana Tech. This experience and his energy and passion for STEM education will serve Montana Tech well."
Dr. Egiebor is a renowned international educator and researcher who has served as visiting professor at top global universities, including the Technical University of Berlin in Germany, Ankara University in Turkey, and the International Institute for Water and Environmental Engineering in Burkina Faso. He also recently completed an international academic leadership engagement as deputy vice chancellor for academic affairs and research (equivalent to provost) at the University of Rwanda. Dr. Egiebor was a U.S. EPA's Science Advisory Board (SAB) member between 2015 and 2018. He also previously served as the environmental engineering expert member of the National Research Council's (NRC's) Committee on Assembled Chemical Weapons Demilitarization, a congressionally mandated committee of NRC, from 1998 to 2000. The committee published a project book titled "Review & Evaluation of Alternative Technologies for the Demilitarization of Assembled Chemical Weapons" in 2000. Dr. Egiebor is a member of Queen's University's Council, his alma mater, in Ontario, Canada. He has received numerous national and international professional awards, including the U.S. Department of Energy Award for Outstanding Research & Educational Accomplishments, the Alexander von Humboldt Fellowship Award in Germany, and the U.S. Fulbright Scholar Award.
Dr. Egiebor's research interests include industrial water and wastewater treatment, advanced oxidation processes, biomass conversion for activated carbon and biochar production, carbon dioxide sequestration, hydrometallurgical processing of ores and concentrates, acid mine drainage, and the treatment of mining and milling wastes. Dr. Egiebor has secured over $30 million in extramural funding as grants and contracts from numerous funding agencies, both nationally and internationally. He has published over 140 peer-reviewed and technical scholarly articles and delivered multiple lectures and oral presentations at conferences, workshops, and symposia worldwide.
Dr. Egiebor and his wife, Esohe, have two adult children, a daughter, Nina, who graduated from the University of Alabama in Birmingham and will be pursuing her Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering at Rice University; and their son, Rume, who graduated in 2022 from SUNY-University at Buffalo and is currently pursuing his master's degree in medical science at the University of South Florida in Tampa.
