National Certified Nursing Assistant Week Feature: Grace Vincent

Recent Butte High graduate Grace Vincent has a head start on delivering the best patient care possible as she heads into her first semester of pre-nursing classes at Montana Technological University this fall. That’s because she’s a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA).

Vincent earned her CNA certification through the Dual Enrollment Foundations of Health Care Certificate that allows high school students to take college courses before their graduation. Certified nursing assistants work in healthcare settings and assist in positioning, bathing, grooming, and feeding patients. They also check vital signs and answer patient calls.

“Taking Dual Enrollment and completing the Foundations of Health Care Certificate has allowed me to earn college credits and expose me to hands-on learning that will help me further my career in Nursing,” Vincent said. “I would recommend enrolling in the School-to-Work CNA program.”

Vincent plans to work as a CNA over the summer.  

In addition to offering a CNA program for high school students, Highlands College plans to provide three CNA classes this summer and fall.

The course follows a hybrid format, meaning you will be required to do online modules, attend a 2-day weekend skills lab, and complete 25 hours in a clinical setting.
