Montana Tech Occupational Health and Safety and Industrial Hygiene students win national awards

This week, four Montana Tech students were honored with national awards at the American Industrial Hygiene Association conference in Phoenix, AZ. The American Industrial Hygiene Foundation's mission is to advance the profession by awarding scholarships that fund education and professional development in industrial hygiene and related disciplines.

The students received a combined scholarship amount of $15,500. Scholarships were awarded based on leadership and/or research potential, with factors such as academic achievement, research activity, and participation in student governance considered in the award criteria. Brie Birkenbuel, an undergraduate Occupational Safety and Health student, was awarded an American Industrial Hygiene Foundation Scholarship. Industrial Hygiene graduate students Jenna Maroney and Sadiq Inuwa were awarded the Kyle B. Dotson Scholarship and the Los Alamos Local Section Scholarship, respectively. Allison Wasley, also an Industrial Hygiene graduate student, was awarded the Amazon "Invent and Simplify" Scholarship for her innovative research in industrial hygiene.

“Our faculty work very hard to ensure that students in our Occupational Safety and Health and Industrial Hygiene programs receive the richest educational experiences possible. The fact that they are competing for awards on the national stage against scholars from much larger programs illustrates the quality of our students,” said Dr. Julie Hart, Safety, Health and Industrial Hygiene Department Head.
