American Mining Hall of Fame to Recognize Centennial Anniversary of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering

The American Mining Hall of Fame will celebrate the centennial anniversary of the Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering at Montana Technological University by issuing a special citation at the 40th Annual Awards Ceremony presented by the Mining Foundation of the Southwest. The ceremony will take place on December 3, 2022 in Tucson, Arizona.

“On behalf of the Metallurgical and Materials Engineering Department at Montana Tech, I wish to express our sincerest thanks and appreciation to the Board of Governors of the Mining Foundation of the Southwest for the award of a Special Citation in recognition of the Department’s Centennial Anniversary,” Department Chair Jerome Downey said. “Induction into the American Mining Hall of Fame has special meaning and significance for our Department because many of our graduates have established successful careers in the mining industry. We will cherish this honor and look forward to expanding our long-standing relationship with the mining industry.”

In its 100 years, the Department of Metallurgy and Materials Engineering has solidified its reputation as a top choice for students studying metallurgy, mining, and materials science. The Department features a Bachelor of Science degree program in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering and a Master of Science degree program in Metallurgical and Mineral Processing Engineering. It is also heavily involved in the Master of Science program in Materials Science and Engineering and the Materials Science Ph.D. program.
