SM Energy Company Donates to Montana Tech Student Success Center

SM Energy Company, an independent exploration and production company, made a $125,000 gift to Montana Tech University to name the Check-in and Waiting Area of Montana Tech’s new Student Success Center’s Academic Center for Excellence.
“We are very thankful for this generous gift and our longstanding partnership with SM Energy. Our alumni who work at SM are some of the best in the industry. We are proud of the impacts they are making to advance the energy sector. They are true innovators and play an important role of supplying the energy we all need and use every day,” stated Joe McClafferty, President of the Montana Foundation.

“We are pleased to be a part of Montana Tech’s Student Success Center and are thrilled that this new building will help recruit, retain, educate, and graduate more problem-solvers, innovators, healers, trailblazers, and leaders,” noted Mary Ellen Lutey, Senior Vice President and Regional Manager – South Texas & Gulf Coast for SM Energy and Montana Tech alum. “The Student Success Center will offer more opportunities for students to achieve their educational dreams and move forward on the path to their own extraordinary futures. The Academic Center for Excellence provides the help students need to be successful at Montana Tech and in life.”

Montana Tech’s Student Success Center will open in the fall of 2019. The Montana Tech Student Success and Living Learning Center will be a place for students to learn and study, to relax and play. When completed, Montana Tech’s SSC will become the heart of our campus. The nearly 100,000-square-foot facility will complete the student life experience on campus, providing an inspiring environment for students to live, eat, socialize, cultivate valuable leadership skills, and forge lifelong friendships. The first two floors of the facility will also provide a much-needed boost to Montana Tech’s residential capacity, adding 166 beds and bringing the campus’ total bed count to 455. This is the largest capital project in the history of campus. The Montana Tech Foundation raised $8 MM of the $24 MM project through the generous support of alumni, friends and our partners in industry.
