The Women of Montana Tech presented Safe Space with a donation of $25,000 on Friday, November 9, 2018. The funds were raised from the Women of Montana Tech’s Purse Strings purse auction and brunch held in October on the campus of Montana Tech. The event saw around 200 women come together to support women in our community and a great cause.
The 2018 donation is the largest donation that the Women of Montana Tech have been able to make to Safe Space. In 2017, the group donated $22,000, in 2016 the donation was $21,500 and in 2015—the first year for the event—the donation was $12,000.
Vicki Blackketter stated, “The idea for Purse Strings came from something small that I was a part of in the past, before coming to Butte. But, the Women of Montana Tech’s purse auction has grown to be an amazing resource in support of Safe Space. This has been wonderful to watch and has made my heart happy. To be part of making this happen is a blessing to me and I’m proud of the campus and community for coming together to make great things happen to assist our people here. Well done Butte and Montana Tech!”
Cathrine Beaunae, Executive Director of Safe Space of Butte, said, "We are so grateful to Vicki Blackketter, the Women of Montana Tech, and the generosity of the Butte community. This unprecedented donation allows Safe Space to provide essential financial assistance to individuals who are fleeing domestic and sexual violence."
