Montana Tech environmental engineering and ecological restoration graduate student Augustina Kwesie Osabutey was named the National Society of Black Engineers Showcase Poster Presentation award winner at the National Society of Black Engineers 2018 Region VI Fall Regional Conference in Las Vegas November 9-11, 2018. Seven Montana Tech students, Sowyma Sudhakar, Abdul Sommed Ahadi, Pearson- Nadal Harold, Irene Ateng, Suvash Ghimire, Francis Inkoom, and Augustina Kwesie Osabutey attended the conference.
Osabutey received the award for her presentation during the Technical Research Exhibition Competition. She presented her thesis titled, "Restoration of highly eroded arid sites in Montana." She also presented on her research titled, “Modification of Reverse Osmosis Membrane Surface with Nisin Coated Silica Particles to Mitigate Biofouling."
The Technical Research Exhibition is designed to showcase members’ skills in theoretical research, technical writing, and oral presentation. The exhibition also provides an opportunity for graduate students to present their research findings while encouraging undergraduates to pursue graduate degrees.
Students from universities across the United States in Region VI of the National Society of Black Engineers presented. Two other Montana Tech students, Abdul Sommed Ahadi and Sowyma Sudhakar, also presented during the oral presentation and ten minute poster presentation on their research respectively.
