Montana Tech AGC Club Places 1st at Competition
Five Montana Tech students in the Associated General Contractors (AGC) Club are competing in the Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA) competition. DBIA focuses on architects, engineers and contractors partnering to ensure projects are delivered to be the most innovative, cost and time efficient projects in the nation.
The students, Cody Weirs, Samantha Johnson, Jesse McLaury, Caileigh Norman, and Andy Anderson, worked for 12 days to prepare a Statement of Qualification on designing a student residence hall with a dining facility. The students received first place at the initial competition. With the first place finish, the students receive a trip to the National Competition/Design Build Conference November 7-9, 2018 in New Orleans, Louisiana.
The second phase is currently underway as the students are preparing a full proposal for the technical design of their residence hall plan. The students are working to be one of the top three teams in the nation.
The Montana Tech team is comprised of civil and mechanical engineering students. “These students have a great blend of interest to pursue design, estimating, and construction skills,” noted Sonya Rosenthal, industry coach. “It is very exciting for these students to be competing and representing Montana Tech and the Rocky Mountain region!”
