Montana Tech’s Biological Sciences Emeritus professor Richard Douglass and University of Buenos Aeries biologists, Victoria Vadell and Irene Gorosito have published papers in Methods in Ecology (2015), Ecosphere (2016) and Ecology and Evolution (2017). The Methods paper deals with theoretical aspects of small mammal habitat selection. Ecosphere demonstrates the amount of field work required to adequately describe a deer mouse/hantavirus system in the field based on nearly 20 years of intensive field work. The Ecology and Evolution paper models the relationship between the hantavirus reservoir, deer mice, and plant productivity in the ecosystem using nearly 20 years of data collected by Tech’s Biological Sciences department. All papers are useful for understanding the ecology of emerging and infectious diseases.
