Montana Tech Celebrates Outstanding Students During National Student Employment Week
The second full week of April is National Student Employment Week and is the opportunity to celebrate the contributions of students. Montana Tech awarded the 1st Annual Internship Student Achievement Award during an Outstanding Student Recognition Ceremony on April 13, 2017. This nationally promoted Cooperative Education & Internship Association (CEIA) award recognizes distinguished achievement and excellence of students who have excelled in or made a significant impact in work-integrated learning and demonstrates quality of degree-related work, initiative, professionalism, and overall impact and performance.
Montana Tech Chancellor with student Emmy KeenanThe 2017 winner is Emmy Keenan, a Professional & Technical Communications student, who worked for 5518 Designs in Butte, MT. Her nominator, Jon Wick, indicated “She progressed from a support position to handling the creative design on a full account, including gaining experience in client management and communication. I was impressed with Emmy's professionalism and the quality of her work from day one and grew to have the utmost confidence in her creative design, abilities, and aptitude.” He also shared, “There is no question that Emmy has had a large impact on our business' current successes because of her dependability, high standard of deliverable, creative and communicative expertise, and accountability.”
Also at the ceremony, Montana Tech recognized the 8th annual Student Employee of the Year (SEOTY). Honored at the event were students nominated by their on-campus employers for accomplishments in the areas of reliability, initiative, uniqueness of contribution, quality of work, professionalism, and community and campus service. This year’s nominees were Cole Carpenter, Josh Ericson, Wyatt Gilmour, Chau Ha, Marcus Holland, Raven Hrysenko, Erik Loran, Kelly Mellott, Morgan Paolini, Dominic Rangel, Kassady Sheble, and Natalie Weig. The selection committee chose Cole Carpenter for the 2017 campus award. Cole, a Petroleum Engineering student, was nominated by Ronda Coguill for his work in the Center for Advanced Mineral and Metallurgical Processing (CAMP). In addition to many examples of Cole’s outstanding contributions, Ronda included in his nomination, “Cole has had a tremendous impact on my lab. His leadership has demonstrated to other students the many values that can be attained by working while going to school.” She also stated, “In all endeavors; be it research or service testing; Cole insures that all work is performed expertly and reliably. He exemplifies our motto that “Perfect is good enough.””
Emmy and Cole received a personalized award, Montana Tech Bookstore gift certificate, and a certificate signed by Chancellor Donald M. Blackketter and Associate Vice Chancellor Paul Beatty. Their names will be displayed as the 2017 recipients on perpetual plaques in the Career Services office.
