Montana Tech’s Rape Prevention Education Team is sponsoring sexual violence expert, Dr. Keith Edwards, to speak to students, faculty and staff during this fall’s student orientation. He will be speaking to staff and faculty on August 17 in the Library Auditorium, immediately following Convocation. Interested community members are invited to attend this session. Dr. Edwards will also be speaking to various student groups including a mandatory session for all new students on Thursday, August 18th at 1:00 pm, also in Tech’s Library Auditorium.
Dr. Edwards brings his experience as a researcher, scholar, educator, and certified Title IX investigator to help Tech faculty and staff understand how they can be a part of the solution in addressing sexual violence. Currently, Dr. Edwards is the co-chair of the American College Personnel Association’s Presidential Task Force on Sexual Violence Prevention in Higher Education and co-editor of Beyond Compliance: Addressing Sexual Violence in Higher Education.
“Here at Montana Tech, we take the issues of sexual violence and sexual misconduct very seriously,” said Paul Beatty, Tech’s Dean of Students. “Having an expert such as Dr. Keith Edwards come to our campus will provide our Montana Tech community with the latest best practices in these areas. We understand that sexual misconduct and sexual assault are problems at universities across the nation. We are determined to give our students the best educational experiences possible and prevention of sexual assault and misconduct is an important piece of that effort.”
