On Sunday, June 12, the Butte Miners will wear Digger green for the Montana Tech Orediggers. This special game will be played with all proceeds going towards a Butte American Legion Scholarship at Montana Tech. This will be an annual game with a $500 scholarship awarded each year to a Legion player who plans to continue his education at Montana Tech.
“As a former American Legion baseball player and someone who grew up on the diamonds in Butte, I appreciate and support these dedicated student-athletes and coaches,” noted Joe McClafferty, Montana Tech Vice Chancellor for Advancement and University Relations. “We are excited to partner with the Miners and Muckers. This scholarship is a great opportunity for a Butte kid to get on their path to an extraordinary future.”
“I think the game is a great way to show our partnership with Montana Tech and the Butte community,” said Jeff LeProwse, head coach of the Butte Miners. “We have had several Miners and Muckers graduate from Montana Tech and have current coaches and players attending the university. The goal of our program is to not only teach our Miners and Muckers the game of baseball but help them develop skills to succeed in the game of life and having a great community partner like Montana Tech gives our student-athletes great opportunities to knock it out of the park.”
Game time is 1:00 pm against Twin Falls. Montana Tech’s Charlie Oredigger will throw out the first pitch.
