Dr. John Ray has Article Accepted for Publication in Parliamentary Journal

Dr. John W. Ray of Montana Tech’s Liberal Studies Department has had an article entitled “The ‘Game’ of Parliamentary Procedure” accepted for publication in a forthcoming edition of Parliamentary Journal which is an international journal published by the American Institute of Parliamentarians to advance the understanding and practice of parliamentary procedure.

The focus of the article is on how game theory, including mathematical game theory, can be empirically applied to the study of the workings of parliamentary procedure. Dr. Ray notes that “using the game analogy and game theory can advance the study and practice of parliamentary procedure in that it can provide an empirical approach to aid in understanding how parliamentary procedure actually functions in a deliberative setting. Game theory can also aid in helping participants develop and apply successful persuasive strategies in public forums."

Dr. Ray is a Professor in the Liberal Studies Department at Montana Tech where he teaches courses in political science and communications. Dr. Ray is a past President of the Commission on American Parliamentary Practice and has twice received that association’s Phifer Award for outstanding scholarship in the area of parliamentary procedure.
