Montana Tech Band Celebrates It's 10th Spring Concert

The Montana Tech Band’s Tenth Spring Concert will be held on Sunday, May 10th in the Montana Tech Auditorium at 3:00 PM.   This concert is free and the public is cordially invited.

The concert opens with “The Anaconda Mines Band” March. Written by Roland Seitz, it states it was “Especilly(sp) written for and dedicated to Sam H. Treloar and his famous Concert Band”. John Williams will be featured in two selections. The first selection John Williams in Concert includes excerpts from "E. T."; The Mission (NBC News); Star Wars; Olympic Spirit and "Jaws. This is a fun piece to play and we hope you enjoy the special effects added by the band. Leonard Bernstein wrote Danzon for Jerome Robbin’s 1944 ballet “Fancy Free”. The band likes the music, but isn’t too keen on dancing for it.  A definite change of tempo and variety is given by the next selection, Lassus Trombone.  Henry Fillmore wrote 15 novelty tunes featuring trombone smears.  Lassus Trombone is probably his most famous. It was written in 1915. The Montana Tech Band has expanded in size and instrumentation in recent years.  This allows the band to perform a wider variety of music.   Taking advantage of a larger woodwind section, the band will perform Finlandia by Jean Sibelius.  

Our next to last selection is John William’s March from “1941”. It was written for the movie “1941”.   Our final selection is Antonin Dvorak’s Symphony No. 9 “From the New World” –excerpts from the Finale.
