Dr. John W. Ray of Montana Tech’s Liberal Studies Department has had an article entitled “Parliamentary Procedure as a Means of Mending Our Broken Politics” accepted for publication in a forthcoming edition of Parliamentary Journal which is an international journal published by the American Institute of Parliamentarians to advance the understanding and practice of parliamentary procedure.
Dr. Ray notes that “While people disagree on the issues, citizens should be able to agree on the rules for debating controversial topics. Adherence to the practice and rules of parliamentary procedure can advance civility in our public debates as well as providing an efficacious means for making political decisions.”
Dr. Ray is a Professor in the Liberal Studies Department at Montana Tech where he teaches courses in political science and communications. Dr. Ray is a past President of the Commission on American Parliamentary Practice and has twice received that association’s Phifer Award for outstanding scholarship in the area of parliamentary procedure. He has contributed several articles in the past to Parliamentary Journal.
