In honor of National Domestic Violence Month, the Montana Tech Foundation is encouraging faculty, staff, and students to wear purple, the color historically tied to domestic violence advocacy.
Vicki Blackketter along with the Montana Tech Foundation will lead this effort on campus in order to bring awareness to domestic violence. This will be the only time Oredigger fans will be encouraged to wear the color of their rival, the Carroll College Saints. “Digger green runs in our veins but in honor of domestic violence month, we are willing to take one for the team and wear purple,” noted Joe McClafferty, Montana Tech Foundation President. “We are not a fan of the color purple but we are a fan of supporting Safe Space and want to bring awareness to the issue of domestic violence. For the remaining 51 weeks of the year, we encourage campus to show your Digger pride and wear copper and green.”
“I am thrilled to head this domestic violence awareness campaign on campus,” explained Vicki Blackketter. Montana Tech faculty and staff are encouraged to wear purple next week, October 27-31 and make a donation to Safe Space. The funds will be collected at the Montana Tech Foundation. The Foundation will match the money raised and Vicki Blackketter will make the donation to Safe Space at the end of the month. “We are hoping to raise enough funds to make a generous donation to our local shelter. Great work takes place each day at Safe Space and the funds will be much appreciated.
