Committed to assist STEM instruction at all levels, Montana Tech and its Department of Metallurgical & Materials Engineering have partnered with Carroll College and ASM International and the ASM Materials Education Foundation to host a free one-week professional development workshop on minerals, metals and materials this summer. ASM is a materials science and engineering society for users, producers and manufacturers.
The ASM Materials Camp will run from July 21-25 and is targeted to High School general science, chemistry, physics, math and technology teachers along with Middle School physical science teachers.
Attendees will learn how to engage with students using simple, low-cost experiments that can integrate into existing lesson plans. Participants will learn how to help students discover career opportunities in science and engineering.
The camp is free but limited to approximately 30. Attendees will receive 4 CEUs, materials, lunch and snacks. Housing is provided to out-of-town participants or those who live over 50 miles away from Montana Tech. 40 OPI renewal units will be provided to Montana teachers. Two graduate credits are available (at participant’s expense) through the University of Missouri-Kansas City at $250.
