Montana Tech will be hosting the 2014 XLi Conference on campus on March 27th and 28th. The conference will focus on creating and delivering engaging learning experiences for all students. The increasing diversity among the student population and the proliferation of open online learning opportunities creates an opportunity to re-engage with issues of online learning design and student support services.
The conference will explore institutional support structures and best practices in integrating services so that online students have equal opportunities to experience success and graduate. At a time when issues of retention, accessibility, performance-based funding and credit for prior learning are at the forefront of discussions, online education once more needs to chart a course for student success.
Sponsored by the Montana University System, XLi is now in its sixth year serving as Montana’s premiere professional development conference dedicated to online education. The conference is open to anyone interested in online education, including faculty, administrators, student support services staff, librarians, and technology personnel. The fee to register is $100 and includes breakfast and lunch each day. A no-host networking event will be held on Thursday, March 27 at Metals Sports Bar and Grill.
Keynote speakers include George Kerscher, Secretary General of the DAISY Consortium, who began working on document access in 1987 and has been a tireless advocate and leader ever since; and Aaron Page, who is a Management Information Systems major at the University of Montana. Rick Hughes is also an invited guest speaker. Hughes has been involved with the integration of digital technology and education for almost 30 years. Varju Luceno, Director of Communications of the DAISY Consortium, will feature two engaging sessions.
