”We are pleased to be working with Tech again this year. With the staggering national statistic of 1 in 2 sexually active young people getting an STD by the age of 25, any promotion highlighting sexual health is important,” said Jamie Paul, Director of Health Promotions and Family Services of the Butte-Silver Bow Health Department.
Students who participate in the Tech event will receive a chance to win a Kindle Fire. Those students who cannot make it to the Tech event but want to participate can go to the Butte-Silver Bow Health Department any day during GYT week prior to noon Friday, April 19th. If students say “I heard about this through Tech”, they will be entered into the Kindle Fire drawing.
The Centers for Disease Control estimates the United States experiences 19 million new STD infections annually and nearly half of these are young people aged 15-24.
“This is our 3rd year of promoting GYT. During last year’s campaign, Butte-Silver Bow Health Department tested approximately 100 people. As word gets out, we expect even more this year,” noted Cricket Pietsch, Montana Tech Counselor. “Students not only get free HIV testing, but have an opportunity to ask questions confidentially about their sexual health.”
