Tech Celebrates National Student Employment Week and Participates in Student Employee of the Year (SEOTY) Program

This year marks the fourth time Montana Tech celebrated National Student Employment week. On Monday, April 8th, Career Services hosted a Student Employee of the Year (SEOTY) recognition ceremony. The event honored Montana Tech students nominated by their on-campus employers for the distinguished award.  This year’s nominees were Terry Biere, Dacy Elmer, Ashley Finch, Patrick Haley, Tammy Nelson, Cody Richardson, Jennifer Robinson, Jacob Roland, and Katy Steiner.

The 2013 Montana Tech Student Employee of the Year award was selected based upon a letter of recommendation addressing the accomplishments of the nominee in the areas of Reliability, Initiative, Uniqueness of Contribution, Quality of Work, Professionalism and Community and Campus Service. The winner of the Montana Tech SEOTY award also competed among other Montana institution winners for the State SEOTY award.

Ashley Finch is the 2013 campus award winner.  She was nominated by three of her supervisors, Jeanne Larson, Marlin Maynard and Shelley Reed, for her excellent contributions in the Environmental Engineering, Occupational Safety & Health and Industrial Hygiene Departments. Ashley received a campus bookstore gift certificate in addition to an award certificate and plaque signed by Chancellor Blackketter and Associate Vice Chancellor Paul Beatty. Her name is listed on the Student Employee of the Year recognition plaque in Career Services.

When nominating Ashley, Jeanne Larson stated, “Her ability to efficiently and effectively multitask is amazing and has helped me immeasurably.” Likewise, in his nomination form, Marlin Maynard said that, “Ashley performs quality work with a minimum of oversight and direction.”  Shelley Reed submitted a heartfelt nomination indicating Ashley’s desire to succeed in every aspect of life, which is apparent in her work ethic.  According to Shelley, “Ashley stands out from other students…she learns very quickly and finishes her duties in record time with complete accuracy….  She takes the initiative when she sees something needs to be done and does it.”

Montana Tech also celebrated National Student Employment Week with daily drawings all week and an ice cream & cake social for all student employees on Wednesday, April 10th in the Student Union Building and cake & popcorn on Friday, April 12th in Career Services.
