Several former Samson Investment Co. employees have banded together to form a Tulsa-based energy company called Bright Horizon Resources. The new company is supported by a $300 million commitment from Denham Capital, a Houston private equity fund. Montana Tech 1982 petroleum engineering graduate and Butte native Carl Burgman has joined together with a group of former Samson Investment Co. employees to form the Tulsa-based energy company. Burgman, who will serve as vice president of operations and engineering, will join Dudley Viles, CEO; Doug Black, land vice president; and David Clupper, geology vice president.
The company was formed to pursue oil and natural gas opportunities in Oklahoma, Texas, Arkansas and Louisiana. The new company does not own any properties yet but hopes to make some deals soon out of its offices at Warren Place in South Tulsa.
“Our management team has over 150 years of combined experience in the oil industry,” explained Burgman. “This experience, our technical expertise and our partnership with our highly supportive and knowledgeable capital partner should make this a very successful venture.”
Bright Horizon Resources is focused on adding value to oil and gas properties through the proper application of advanced drilling and completion technologies. The company will be pursuing a strategy involving both acquisitions and leasing in proven areas, as well as in areas that are unproven.
“We wish Carl and the team at Bright Horizon Resources all the best in this new venture,” said Michael Barth, Executive Director of the Montana Tech Foundation. “Carl Burgman has been a tremendous supporter of our campus and we are proud of the way he represents Montana Tech. Our graduates have a tremendous impact on our economy in securing the energy resources upon which we all depend.”
