SCHOLARSHIPS

Montana Tech offers over $1.4 million in scholarships to each new incoming class.

To help make the scholarship process a bit easier, we have a general scholarship application that considers you for all scholarships you qualify for. All you need to do is fill out the application by January 15 and we will take care of the rest. Keep in mind that all scholarships are competitive so apply early and every year; there is an additional $2 to $3 million in scholarships available for continuing students.

Apply  for  Scholarships

To apply for a scholarship, you must first apply for admission to Montana Tech.

As soon as your application has been processed, you will receive an e-mail with a link to your personal website. Once you log on to your website, fill out the scholarship application outlined in the instructional steps below.

Once your application is completely filled out, click "Go."

If your application is successfully submitted you will see a confirmation page thanking you for your submission.

We encourage all students who apply for admission to apply for scholarships as you may be surprised by what’s available and how much you could receive. While there are hundreds of scholarships available, some of the most sought after are listed below.

Marie Moebus Presidential Scholarship:

Awarded to first-time freshmen students who demonstrate the highest academic and extracurricular achievement, these scholarships are a combination of a fee waiver, a WUE or Advantage Scholarship, and a cash supplement of up to $3,000 per year. Marie Moebus Presidential Scholarships are Montana Tech’s highest honor and are the most competitive scholarships offered. These scholarships are renewable for up to four years.

Criteria:

  • Must be an incoming first-time freshman student
  • 3.75 GPA or higher
  • ACT > 30 or SAT >2010
  • Actively engaged in community and school
  • Must be pursuing a Bachelor’s (four-year) degree at Montana Tech

In addition to the online scholarship application, you must also submit:

  • A 500 word essay about why you selected your major
  • Two letters of recommendation
  • Resume of activities

Advantage Scholarship:

Awarded to students who demonstrate high academic achievement, the Advantage Scholarship is open to selected degree programs at Montana Tech. The cost of attendance for a student receiving an Advantage Scholarship will be 150% of in-state tuition for the student’s entire undergraduate term at Montana Tech, provided they remain in good academic standing and are enrolled in an Advantage degree. This scholarship is available to all out-of-state students and equates to over $8,800 in savings per year!

Eligible Degree Programs:

Biological Sciences, Business and Information Technology, Chemistry, Civil Engineering Technology, Computer Science, Drafting Technology, Environmental Engineering, General Engineering— Welding, Geological Engineering, Geophysical Engineering, Mathematical Sciences, Metallurgical & Materials Engineering, Metals Fabrication, Mining Engineering, Network Technology, Professional & Technical Communication, Safety, Health, and Industrial Hygiene, Software Engineering, Statistics

Criteria:

3.0 GPA; with ACT Math > 24 or SAT Math > 560.

Ralph Mitchell

The Frances & Ralph Mitchell Scholarship is a unique opportunity that is only available to students from northern California majoring in Geological Engineering. The award is comprised of a $20,000 scholarship and an Advantage Scholarship totaling $28,000 and is renewable for up to four years. Selection is competitive and up to two scholarships may be awarded each year.

Criteria:

  • Composite ACT >= 22 or SAT >= 1540
  • Math ACT >= 24 or SAT >= 560
  • 3.0 GPA or higher
  • Majoring in Geological Engineering
  • From northern California
