The 26th Annual Montana Tech Petroleum Engineering Department John “Jocko” Evans Technical Symposium was held virtually this year in an effort to keep the tradition alive in the memory of John “Jocko” Evans.

The virtual symposium with the Montana Tech Petroleum Engineering Department Head, Dr. Todd Hoffman gave a brief welcome and update on the department followed by several technical presentation covering a range of topics including:

  • "The Value of Volunteering" by Deb Ryan, SPE: North American Regional Director and Swan Mountain Engineering Founder & CEO
  • "Sealed Wellbore Pressure Monitoring: A Breakthrough Completions Diagnostic Tool" by Kyle Haustveit, Devon Energy
  • "Gas and Solids Separation During Production" by DJ Snyder, Ichor Engineering
  • "Deploying Surface Computer Vision to Determine Wellbore Stability and Hole Cleaning while Drilling" by Cavin Holt, DrilDocs
  • We are also planning to have presentations on data analytics and well abandonment.

Although this year’s John ‘Jocko’ Evans Symposium is virtual and at no cost to attend, can our SPE Student Chapter still count on you for your support? Please show our students you are behind them through a gift to the chapter today.
