Montana Tech Announces Student Veteran Awardee

On Wednesday, November 8, 2017, Montana Tech honored faculty, staff and students who served in the military at a banquet on campus. Over 70 individuals were in attendance. At the event, the Student Veteran Task Force recognized 11 student veterans who were nominated for the Distinguished Student Veteran Award, which is based on reliability, initiative, community, and campus services.

The Task Force also announced the 2017 awardee as Christopher Smith. Christopher Smith is currently a senior, double majoring in Geophysical Engineering and Applied Mathematics. Mr. Smith works as a GIS Analyst at the Montana Bureau of Mines and Geology (MBMG). Mr. Smith served honorably within the United States Army for about 5 years, which included participation in the initial invasion into Iraq in 2003. Mr. Smith served the last two years of his commitment within Special Operations Command located at Ft. Bragg, North Carolina. Mr. Smith has been married to his lovely wife Kari for 2 years.

“We were thrilled to receive 11 nominations from the campus. This is a special honor the Task Force awards to a very deserving student,” noted Janet Friesz, Supervisor of Enrollment Services/Veterans School Certifying Official. “Christopher is an outstanding student and individual.
