Thank you so much for your interest in Montana Tech’s BSN Completion program.  We are excited to work with you as you continue your education!

For entry in to the BSN program, first you must apply to Montana Tech.  The application is online and can be accessed via the following link: http://iam.mtech.edu/applynow/inquiryform.

Once you have been accepted to Montana Tech, then you must ALSO apply to the Nursing Department BSN Completion program.  Once the completed application AND all the requested supporting documents have been received, your application will be reviewed.  You will receive official notification of either acceptance or rejection via postal mail. 

If accepted, the BSN advisor, Becky Lopez, will be contacting you regarding your starting semester and registration for courses.  This communication will take place via your Tech email, so be sure to check it when you get accepted.  If you have any questions regarding your application or the BSN Completion program, please do not hesitate to email Becky Lopez at rlopez@mtech.edu.  Since the program is online, email is the best form of communication.

Application to the BSN Completion Program

Once accepted to Montana Tech, the following paper application – with outlined document requirements - must be completed and submitted to the Montana Tech Nursing Department.

Required Prerequisite Courses

In addition to completion of an accredited nursing program, a minimum of a “C-“ must be achieved for the following courses:

  • BIOH 201/202: Anatomy & Physiology with Lab
  • BIOH 211/212: Anatomy & Physiology II with Lab
  • CHMY 121/122: Intro to General Chemistry with Lab
  • WRIT 101 or WRIT 121: College Writing I
  • M 121: College Algebra
  • NUTR 258: Fundamentals of Nutrition
  • PSYX 100: Intro to Psychology
  • BIOM 250/251: Microbiology for Health Science with Lab

Immunizations

If a student does not wish to be immunized due to a religious belief, they must provide the clinical facility with a written explanation, including the specific religion they practice, the reason(s) the religion does not permit immunizations, and supporting documents to establish their membership in an established religion which holds a bona fide religious belief opposing immunization. The clinical facility will evaluate any such request upon receipt of the above mentioned information.

Cost

Completion of a degree in nursing is costly. In addition to tuition and fees, nursing students should be aware that required nursing textbooks/reference materials are expensive and many courses require several texts. The student should also plan for a number of out-of-pocket expenses related to clinical supplies and course/program requirements. Once accepted into the nursing program, students are assessed a program fee each semester

Background Check and Clinical Requirements

Clinical practice is a mandatory part of Montana Technological University Nursing Programs.  Since an active RN license is required, an additional background check is not required for application to the program.  However, if the selected clinical sites within the student’s community require an additional background check, it will be the student’s responsibility to supply the required check. 

Application Process

In addition to the above outlined requirements, students must supply the following documents for acceptance into the BSN Program:

  • Copy of unencumbered RN license OR Proof of NCLEX test date.
  • Unofficial transcripts
  • Tdap within the last 10 years. (Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Acellular Pertussis).
  • Proof of measles, mumps, rubella 2-dose series or immunity.
  • Proof of varicella vaccination or immunity.
  • Proof of annual (fall) Influenza vaccination.
  • Evidence of Hepatitis B vaccination 3-dose series or immunity. .
  • Current evidence of freedom from tuberculosis (TB skin test or chest x-ray) annually.
  • CPR-- evidence of current completion of an approved CPR course, must have adult and infant (American Heart Association Health Care Provider or American Red Cross Professional Rescuer).
